We feature two floors of engaging interactive exhibits, a living river aquarium and touch tank, and an indoor pollinator garden. We went to see the science museum, but enjoyed other places in the building also. The first couple tested positive at the end of September after being notified about a staff member testing positive. The science museum is pretty small, but I saw a lot of kids had fun, they definitely loved here.
We are visiting from out of town and I had my 9 and 12 year old with me. T he Science Museum is a fun place for adults and children to explore the wonders of science through active learning and play! What a great place to bring the family!!

The sixth and seventh floors are open to explore the rooftop gardens and to see a view of downtown Roanoke.

While this museum does have some of that, a lot of the museum is really unique! I find this to be a better use of space to educate people on how to grow food ..

Unlike others, I appreciated that it was small because it wasn't overwhelming for the kiddos and we managed to do everything.
There is a small room for little ones too, which was helpful for us to find a quiet place for breastfeeding and allow the baby to do some floor time on foam mats.Parts that were sort of a bust for us -- the robot room (literally, none of the robots worked), the butterfly garden (looking ROUGH and we saw only one butterfly), pretty much all the rest of the animal displays downstairs (pretty pathetically maintained), and the "blood" machine (should be cool, but none of the suctions worked so the balls didn't travel like they were supposed to).Overall, it was a pleasant way to spend a rainy day with kids for a few hours. The museum continues to reinvent not only the exhibit galleries, but also the entire museum and its connecting spaces, classrooms, and programs in order to transform the way visitors engage in learning science.
I'd recommend it if you have kids in the 3-8 year old range for sure. The Science Museum of Western Virginia was chartered in 1970 by a group of school teachers who saw the need for an informal education facility to help engage students in important subject outside of the classroom.
